Nepal Trekking in the Himalayas - Annapurna Lodge Trek to the “Gates of Heaven”

Through the years, AdventureWomen has developed the ideal Nepal trekking trip for women. Their Nepalese adventure travel trip has been carefully designed to include a comfortable, and less physically challenging Nepal trekking route at a lower altitude - 7,500 feet instead of at 14,000!

AdventureWomen’s trekking trip in Nepal is perfect for women who want to experience the splendor of hiking in the awe-inspiring Himalayan mountain range, whose name, in Sanskrit, means “abode of snow”. This Nepal trekking adventure in the Himalayas features verdant valleys, ancient villages, fascinating Nepalese culture, and the friendly people of Nepal.

AdventureWomen’s Nepal trek in the Annapurna foothills is a lodge-based adventure instead of a camping trip, allowing for an easier pace and less impact on trails from porters and pack animals. The Nepal lodges are of modern construction in a traditional style. All have private rooms with en-suite bathrooms and offer excellent local Nepalese cuisine. After all, you should stay in style when visiting the top of the world!

Also included in AdventureWomen’s Nepal adventure travel trip is an additional two-day rafting excursion on the lush Seti River and a wildlife viewing safari. You ride elephants through Royal Chitwan National Park, the world’s finest Bengal Tiger habitat. And, you explore Kathmandu’s ancient city of Bhaktapur and the Buddhist Temple Complex of Boudhanath.

AdventureWomen’s Nepal trekking adventure is a unique combination of hiking, cultural interaction, rafting, and getting to know Nepal’s southern Terai country. You can have it all on this 16-day odyssey on foot through the highlights of this fascinating destination in Asia!

Depart for your flight to Nepal and the start of your Nepal and Himalaya trekking adventure in the Annapurna region: the “Gates of Heaven”.

Day 3: Arrival into Kathmandu, Nepal
Plan to arrive in Kathmandu, capital of Nepal, by early afternoon. You will be picked up at the airport and transferred to the elegant, five-star Yak and Yeti Hotel to rest up after your long trip. This afternoon you meet with your group leaders for introductions and your Nepal trekking trip orientation. Dinner is on your own at a terrific local restaurant.

Day 4: Fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara and Trek to Birethanti
Fly to Pokhara, Nepal, the rural capital in Nepal’s western region, where you eat lunch on the shores of beautiful Lake Phewa Tal before driving to New Bridge to begin your first trek. An afternoon of scenic hiking is followed by a night in the Sanctuary Lodge, which stands on the banks of the Birethanti River.

Day 5: Trek from Birethanti to Ghandruk
Today you trek along the outlying farms of the Modi River Valley. After an hour of easy hiking, you climb out of the valley and turn toward the astounding Himalaya mountains. In the late afternoon, you arrive at the Himalaya Lodge in Ghandruk for an evening of spectacular Annapurna panoramas.

Day 6: Ghandruk
Happy Halloween! Enjoy a lay-over day at the Himalaya Lodge to explore Ghandruk. You meet with the local women of Ghandruk, who maintain a traditional Nepalese weaving industry. Relax in the lodge’s garden or take an optional hike to another village.

Day 7: Ghandruk to Birethanti
Trek back to Birethanti and the Sanctuary Lodge via a spectacular route, stopping to explore the village of Kimche. Spend a relaxing evening by the river or in the landscaped gardens with views of magnificent, 23,000-foot Machapuchare.

Day 8: Birethanti to Gurung Lodge, Majgaun
Depart Sanctuary Lodge and continue trekking along the Modi River. Explore the picturesque villages of Majgauan and Patleket, Nepal where you have the opportunity to visit a local school. This evening, stay at the Gurung Lodge, built in the style of a traditional Nepalese village, complete with antique carved windows.

Day 9: Gurung Lodge via Chandrakot and Lumle, and on to Pokhara
Depart the ever-attentive Gurung Lodge and begin trekking back to the village of Chandrakot (5200 ft.), walking through forests with surrounding views of the valley and mountains. A half hour later arrive at the village of Lumle, situated at 5300 ft., where a vehicle is waiting to transfer you to Pokhara and the Hotel Barahi, just a one hour ride.

The afternoon is free to wander among the shops on the lakeside or take a row boat out on the lake.

Day 10: Pokhara to the Riverbank Safari Camp
Depart Pokhara for your transfer to the Seti River and a fun-filled, easy two-day whitewater rafting adventure in Nepal. Stay at the fabulous Riverbank Safari Camp for the next two nights in comfortable safari-style tents.

Day 11: Layover Day at Seti River Camp
Today is for relaxing at the lush Riverbank Safari Camp where you can choose to hike to a nearby village or sit in one of the camp’s “tree houses” and read a book.

Day 12: On the River to Machan Wildlife Resort and Royal Chitwan National Park
Spend the morning rafting, then journey by bus to the remote Royal Chitwan National Park, home of the Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Greater One-Horned Rhinoceros, Gaur, 450 different species of birds, and much more. Stay two nights at the Machan Wildlife Resort in the heart of the Terai area of Nepal. For the next two days, view wildlife from the backs of elephants.

Day 13: Exploration of Chitwan
Experience wildlife viewing in the jungle in Royal Chitwan National Park. Enjoy your safari by elephant, do a guided nature walk, go bird watching, and capture this remote wilderness and its wildlife with your camera.

Day 14: Chitwan to Kathmandu
After a final morning of game viewing, fly from Chitwan to Kathmandu for two more nights in the superior Yak and Yeti Hotel. Visit the extraordinary Buddhist Temple Complex of Boudhanath on the way from the Nepal airport into Kathmandu, then venture out for a late afternoon of shopping for treasures to take home and explore the historical haunts of Kathmandu. Dinner is on your own.

Choose an optional flight-seeing trip to view Mount Everest this morning. Get spectacular pictures of Mount Everest, then in the afternoon go on a guided tour of Kathmandu’s city highlights and explore the ancient city of Bhaktapur.
