The fall season in Montana is especially spectacular, with clear, crisp, mountain nights; golden, quaking aspen; fewer tourists in Yellowstone; and the melodic bugling of elk during the fall rutting season.
Home to some of the last remaining wild land in the United States, Montana is famous for its outdoor adventures. Enjoy a wildlife Safari to Yellowstone National Park to see Montana “big game” and Yellowstone’s unique ecosystem. Learn to fly fish, take a horseback riding jaunt on Montana trails, hike high meadows, and marvel at fall wildlife viewing with large bull elk bugling as they round up their harems for the winter season. Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Arrive into Bozeman, Montana and transfer by chauffeured stretch limousine to the 320 Guest Ranch, just south of Big Sky for the start of your Montana Guest Ranch vacation. After a light dinner, meet your guide for trip orientation and group introductions.
Day 2: A Mountain Hike, Afternoon Scenic Gondola Ride, and Hayride/BBQ Dinner Get up early and watch the dude ranch horses gallop in from their overnight pasture. After a hearty breakfast, begin your Montana vacation with a short hike, stopping to view heart-stopping panoramas with a picnic lunch along the way.
Enjoy a scenic gondola ride this afternoon to the top of Lone Mountain, Big Sky’s winter ski area, for grand views of the surrounding mountains.
Tonight enjoy a fun Western hayride and barbecue dinner.
Day 3: Early Morning Elk Bugle Walk and Safari in Yellowstone National Park Hike at sunrise on a wildlife quest for bugling elk, to see the males challenge each other for leadership of the heard.
Then continue to Yellowstone National Park on a wildlife safari and exploration of Yellowstone’s fascinating geology. Walk by some of Yellowstone’s famous hot pools, fumaroles, and mud pots. Look for bison, moose, elk, wolves, deer, or even a grizzly bear. Picnic at Old Faithful geyser and shop till you drop in West Yellowstone.
Day 4: Horseback Riding and Optional Fly Fishing Morning Montana horseback riding in the mountains with your own Montana wranglers, to enjoy pristine and awesome fall scenery from the saddle! This afternoon is optional fly-fishing on one of Montana’s famous blue-ribbon rainbow trout streams, or enjoy a second (optional) horseback riding jaunt. Tonight’s special dinner is at the 320 Guest Ranch Steakhouse.
Day 5: Historic Towns and the Headwaters of the Missouri River Travel to Virginia City, Montana and the Old West, an open-air museum of the early mining history and a national historic landmark.
Then on to the Headwaters of the Missouri River in Three Forks to re-live a small part of “America’s Greatest Adventure”. the Lewis and Clark “Corps of Discovery” Expedition of the early 19th century.
Tonight’s fun dinner is at AdventureWomen’s homebase in the beautiful Bridger Mountains, with an overnight in Bozeman.
Day 6: Madison Buffalo Jump and Special Cooking Class Drive a short distance to the famous Madison Buffalo Jump, one of many well-preserved historical sites associated with Great Plains tribes. Interpretive signs explain the importance of bison to Plains culture and the uses to which the site was put. Several formations remain to provide visitors with a glimpse of the cultures that used the jump site as a method of hunting.
Spend the afternoon exploring the town of Bozeman, MT, affectionately known as “a small town in big britches”. Then celebrate your last night together with a special dinner and group cooking class – a great way to end a great week!
Day 7: Departure Depart or stay longer to explore more of Bozeman and the best of Montana.
