Trip Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Arrive in Bozeman, Montana by late afternoon for your Montana horseback riding vacation on a working cattle ranch. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner at AdventureWomen’s headquarters in the Bridger Mountains, introductions and trip orientation.
Day 2: Introduction to Bonanza Creek Country Transfer by chauffeured stretch limousine to your home for the week, a Montana dude ranch, family-owned and operated and an ideal home base for a Montana horseback riding vacation in America’s west. After a warm welcome, meet for orientation and an hour ride so your guides can match horseback riders with their horses and saddles. After lunch, enjoy a trail ride up to a sheepherder’s monument for a view of the valley, the seven surrounding mountain ranges, and a little history of the area. After dinner, sit on the porch and wait for the coyotes to herald your arrival!
Day 3: Ride up Bonanza Creek Wind your way through pines, fir, and aspen still fragrant in the cool morning air! Climb up and up for another panoramic view of the river valley from the saddle and with a visit to some early day corrals and an old settler’s cabin. The after lunch horseback ride is for those who crave the rush of a full, hell-bent-for-election, gallop across the flat land! After dinner, relax around the campfire and tell tall tales of your first day’s Montana horse riding experiences!
Day 4: Cattle Drive and the Bair Museum Ride out today to attend to the authentic business of a working Montana cattle ranch — moving cows and their calves to a new pasture. Gathering the pairs and ushering them to fresh grass and water, gain a new insight into the lives of our foremothers, who were cow hands, mothers, cooks, laundresses, and more. Visit the Charles M. Bair Family Museum after lunch. Bair was one of the largest sheep ranchers in the world, and counted among his friends Charlie Russell, Joseph Henry Sharp, Tom Mix, Will Rogers, Chief Plenty Coups, and many U.S. presidents. His home is a rich repository of Indian artifacts, outstanding art and some of the finest European antiques to be found in Montana. Top off the day with a ride to a campfire cookout just up the creek.
Day 5: All-Day Ride in the Castle Mountains Today is a beautiful all-day horseback ride through the Castle Mountains, across open country, and through a canyon. Enjoy the profusion of wild flowers and a stop at prehistoric Indian pictographs. Lunch is al fresco and then have time to roam, hike, and relax. Return via a new route in time for another generous ranch dinner.
Days 6-7: Back to the High Country and a Grand Farewell Horseback ride for the next two days in the high country, absorbing the serenity and expansive magnificence of this spectacular ranch country. Head out to work the cattle, easing the mother cows and their calves along at a leisurely pace. Dinner on Friday night is a grand celebration in honor of a perfect week.
Day 8: Departure by Luxury SUV Stretch Limousine Breakfast and departure by 9:00am for the drive back to Bozeman and the airport, arriving at approximately 11:00am. Or, stay another night in Bozeman to relax and take in the historic western town, and depart the next day.
